A Different Place to Begin

A short guided reflection for getting curious about your nervous system and what’s happening beneath the surface.

Sometimes we know what we think we should be feeling, doing, or able to handle, and yet our actual experience is something quite different.

Maybe you want to relax at the end of a long day. You know there's nothing you need to do, you've finally given yourself permission to slow down—but your body still feels restless, alert, or unable to settle. You know nothing is wrong, yet you feel anxious. You know you're safe, yet you still feel on edge.

In these moments, it can be easy to move quickly toward thoughts like Why am I like this? What's wrong with me? Why can't I just do better?

I spent years doing all the things that were supposed to help me feel better, yet I still felt anxious, restless, or on edge. It was incredibly frustrating to feel like I was doing everything right and still wonder what was wrong with me.

But what if nothing is wrong with you? What if you simply need a different lens through which to understand what's happening?

This guide is an invitation to do just that

It will walk you through a simple process of slowing down and paying attention to different parts of your experience—the context of what happened, the sensations that arise in your body, and the meaning you made of the experience.

You don't need to know anything about the nervous system to begin. There is nothing you need to identify correctly or figure out. The goal isn't to change what you're experiencing.

It's simply to begin noticing it with a little more curiosity.
